Bad news
We are aghast by the news that in the JS session of September 8, 2009, Speaker Abdul Hamid rejected all 35 notices from opposition lawmakers. They demanded discussion on various issues which are not only of opposition political parties but also of the people of Bangladesh-- Tipaimukh dam, shortage of power and gas, law and order situation, extortion, tender manipulation and many other problems.
People have become very upset and anxious with the current state of affairs and are passing their days in great misery. How could Speaker Abdul Hamid turn down the demand for discussion on all these important issues? Is not he aware what is happening around him? Or he prefers to ignore them? Either way, it is not acceptable. About law and order, extortion and criminal activities, the Speaker said that it is possible to solve the problems under existing laws. Our question is, if it is possible then why is it not being dealt with ? Is it because mostly Awami League activists are involved in the crimes?
It is the Speaker's duty to act impartially, we hope he will always be impartial. We demand that Speaker Abdul Hamid accept the notices and prove that he is above partisanship.
