EC has lost neutrality, alleges Manikganj BNP leaders
Rejecting Election Commission's (EC) decision to invite Saifur-led BNP faction for electoral reform talks, front ranking leaders of BNP and its front organisations in Manikganj said the EC has lost its neutrality by doing so.
The EC has breached its commitment for holding a free and fair election by deciding to invite the Saifur-led faction for electoral reform talks, they said.
Now, we do not believe that this EC would be able to perform its task without being influenced, they told newsmen at Manikganj Press Club yesterday. The leaders included former joint convener of district BNP Jamilur Rashid Khan, former secretary Iquebal Ahmed Mukta, former organizing secretary Azad Hossain Khan and former convener of district JASAS Asadujjaman.
They expressed their full confidence in the leadership of Khaleda Zia.
They said the 'midnight drama' by some party leaders is nothing but a new conspiracy to split the party.
They said grassroots leaders have no support to the man who took over the chairperson's responsibility and allowed return of expelled leaders and will not take any instruction from him, they said.
There is no district committee in Manikganj since dissolution of the then committee in 2001.
On Contact, Saturia upazila BNP president Advocate Moksedur Rahman, Harirampur upazila BNP convener Abdul Baten and district Jubo Dal secretary SMM Iqbal Hossain also expressed their solidarity with the district leaders.
