Patuakhali municipal chairman sued for extortion
An extortion case has been filed with Patuakhali Sadar police station against Patuakhali municipality chairman and BNP leader Mostaq Ahmed alias Pinu and his personal assistant (PA) Mukti Pado Nandi. Police recorded the case Tuesday night after primary investigation, done on orders from a magistrate court.
Patuakhali municipal employee Syed Mozammel filed the case, according to Sheikh Delwar, OC of Sadar police station.
Mozammel alleged that Mostaq Ahmed faced a case filed in 2002 for misappropriation of Tk 34 lakh of municipal funds.
Mostaq called him to his house on January 4, 2004 and asked him to give false statement in court in his favour in the case but he declined.
To take revenge, the municipal chairman suspended him without any reason. Mozammel filed a writ with the High Court challenging the suspension. Then Mostaq demanded Tk one lakh from Mozammel to reinstate him in his job and asked to withdraw the writ.
Mozammel gave Tk one lakh to Mostaq and withdraw the writ but Mostaq neither reinstate him in the job not returned the money.
Mostaq is now in Patuakhaqli jail. Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested him from Paltan area in Dhaka on August 9.
