Prisoners' strike at Jhenidah Jail
The prisoners at Jhenidah Jail yesterday refrained from performing their duties for several hours to realise demands including improvement of food quality.
Later Divisional Inspector General (DIG) Abul Kashem along with other high officials came to the prison and managed to calm down the aggrieved inmates through discussion.
After breakfast yesterday, the prisoners prevented the cooks from preparing dinner that led to chaos and confusion.
On information, the DIG accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Abu Sayed Fakir, Superintendent of Police Abul Khaer and Civil Surgeon Dr Shamsul Haq went to Jhenidah Jail and talked to the prisoners.
They demanded improvement of food quality, arrangement of meeting with their relatives everyday and supply of food from outside. After two hours' discussion, the prisoners withdrew their strike.
