Gournadi BCL leader critically hurt in police beating
Aminul Islam Shain, 29, organising secretary of Gournadi upazila Chhatra League, was critically injured in alleged tortured by police during a raid in his house in Pinglakati Friday night.
However, police claimed that Shahin was injured when he tried to flee.
Family sources and locals claimed that Shahin had rivalry with his uncle Abubakar, who instigated police to arrest him and raid his house.
During the raid, police broke open the door and entered Shahin's house. He tried to flee through the window. Police led by Sub Inspector Manzur Morshed and Assistant Sub Inspector Nazrul Islam nabbed Shahin after a chase and beat him severely, the family alleged.
They took him to Gournadi Upazila health complex and later to Barisal SBMCH as his condition deteriorated.
Abdul Hye Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Gournadi police station, claimed that Shahin was accused in a criminal case. He fled away when police went to arrest him, the OC said, adding he knew nothing about his injury.
