Bhasani's contributions recalled

Speakers at a seminar held here yesterday said Maolana Bhasani dedicated his entire life for establishing rights of the oppressed and downtrodden people. Maolana Bhasani University of Science and Technology (MBUST) organised the seminar on the veteran political leader of the sub-continent, Maolana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, on its Santosh campus to mark his 31st anniversary of death. He died on November 17, 1976. Vice Chancellor Dr Monimul Haque presided over the seminar while it was attended by Prof KAM Saa'duddin, prominent social scientist and a close associate of Maolana Bhasani as chief guest. Maolana Bhasani Research Centre coordinator Syed Irfanul Bari presented the keynote paper at the seminar while Prof Nurul Islam Miah, registrar of the university gave the welcome speech. Among others, Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Department chairman Dr Mohammad AKM Mohiuddin and Environmental Science and Resource Management Department chairman Dr Mohammad Younuchh Miah addressed. Earlier, the chief guest inaugurated a wallpaper and photo exhibition on the campus. Later, students of the university performed at a cultural function. This was followed by a drama named, 'Maolana Bhasanir Mrittu, Atoppar. Three students of the university, Mohammad Ashraful Alam, Mohammad Rokonuddin and Naimuddin won prizes in the essay writing competetion on 'Modern Education and Thoughts of Maolana Bhasani'.
