'Extortionist' lynched
An alleged extortionist, beat up by angry mob on Tuesday night at village Pirahati in Santhia upazila in the district, died yesterday morning.
The dead is identified as Abdul Halim, 22, of village Nurdaha in Santhia upazila.
Halim with several other companions went to the house of Muktar Hossain of village Pirahati on Tuesday night for taking tolls, police and the locals said.
They tried to kidnap Muktar when he refused to pay toll to them. Hearing his cry, locals rushed to the spot and chased the alleged extortionists. Halim was caught from the spot while the others managed to flee.
