9 get life for Bagerhat Jubo League leader murder
A court here has sentenced nine persons to life term in Jubo Dal leader Bachchu murder case.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Osman Haider handed down the punishment to Abul Hossain, Sarder Masudur Rahman, Khan Abu Bakar, Anis Shaikh, Habla Khokon, Sharafat Khan, Buddo Talukder, Shahin Talukder and Akbar Sheikh in the verdict delivered on Wednesday.
Five of the accused were acquitted. They are Shawkat Ali, Bachchu Paik, Habi Dai, Mofa Dai and Shabuj Sheikh.
Six of the convicts were on the dock when the verdict was delivered. Three others are absconding.
Bagerhat Jubo Dal leader Alimul Huda Bachchu was hacked to death on August 27 in 1995 at Pachadighi in Bagerhat Sadar upazila.
His younger brother Nazmul Huda lodged a case with on September 8, 1995, naming nine persons as accused.
SI Nawab Ali investigated the case and presented the charges heet to court on November 13 in the same year.
The court recorded statements of all the 21 prosecution witnesses during trial which concluded on November 6.
