Crushing begins at Mobarakganj Sugar Mills
Sugarcane crushing began at Mobarakganj Sugar Mills in Kaliganj upazila yesterday with a target to produce 13,025 metric tons (MT) of sugar by crushing 1 lakh 80 thousand MT sugarcane this fiscal (2007-2008), mill officials said.
Mobarakganj Sugar Mills managing director (MD) ATM Ali Ashraf Khan formally inaugurated the crushing season by throwing cane on the cane carrier. Captain Tanvir Ahmed of Jhenidah Rab-6, Jhenidah Pourasabha chairman Mahbubur Rahman, Principal Rashed Sattar and police official Shahidul Islam were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Earlier, the mill produced 12 thousand 798 MT of sugar by crushing 1 lakh 82 thousand 972 MT of sugarcane last year. The mill incurred a loss of Tk 5 crore last year.
