5 BNP men arrested in Rajshahi
Durgapur police of Rajshahi yesterday arrested five fugitive BNP leaders including a former Union Parisad (UP) member from their houses at Gowrihar village in connection with Jubo League leader Nurul Islam murder case, police said.
They are Abdul Khalek, also former Zaluka UP member, Hossain Ali, Bablu, Kashem Ali and Shariful Islam.
Acting on a secret information, police launched raids at their houses and arrested them.
When contacted, Durgapur police station officer-in charge (OC) Krisna Kumar said the arrestees went into hiding long ago.
After arrest, they were produced before a court, he said.
A group of BNP cadres stabbed Jubo League leader Nurul Islam with sharp weapons at Durgapur Bazaar on November 09, 2001. He succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on November 18.
