Homage paid to Bhasani

The 31st death anniversary of Maolana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani was observed in Tangail yesterday. Thousands of people from different parts of the country and outside came to his mazar at Santosh to pay homage to the great leader popularly known as 'leader of the oppressed people'. Santosh Islamic University Trusty Board and Maolana Bhasani University of Science and Technology jointly organised daylong programmes including placing wreaths, offering Fateha, holding Milad Mahfil at his mazar, feeding the destitute, discussion meeting, blood donation programme, painting competition for children, a session of spiritual songs, photo exhibition, and handicrafts show in Santosh. In the morning, Language Movement veteran MA Matin, and MBUST Vice Chancellor Dr Monimul Haque, family members of Maolana Bhasani, and different social and cultural organisations placed wreath at the mazar. Political parties including Awami League, Jatiya Party, Krishak Sramik Janata League, National Awami Party, National Democratic Party, Jatiya Ganotantrik Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal also placed wreath there. Krishak Sramik Janata LeaguePresident Abdul Kader Siddiqui called upon the government to observe Bhasani's death anniversary with state honour.
