The 300-metre breached portion of Gaibandha-Balashi road is being renovated at the initiative of joint forces. The portion of the road was washed away during the last flood, snapping Gaibandha district town's road links with Balashi ghat and Fulchari upazila. Earlier sources in Roads and Highways Department said they could not start the repair work despite appeals from people due to fund constraint, even after recession of floodwater. Later, the Army camp in Gaibandha took the initiative to renovate the damaged portion of the road. The Army has also taken initiative measure to reconstruct the 160-metre breach on the Gaibandha town protection embankment at Goderhat. The portion of the embankment was washed away by surging waters from Ghagot river during the last flood. Maj. Mizan of Gaibandha Army camp together with Abu Md. Shafiul Azam, Executive Engineer, Water Development Board, Gaibandha, on Saturday visited the breached portion of the town protection embankment and took initiative to reconstruct it immediately. Repair of the breached embankment will save vast areas from flooding. The areas include party of Gaibandha town and Boali, Kholahati, Gideri and Badiskhali area in Sadar upazila and Kanchipara and Udakahli in Fulchari upazila, sources said.
