Bid to enlist as voters at two places: 2 held

Army personnel have foiled an attempt of two women to enlist their names as voters from two places in Rajshahi city. The two named Sewli Akter Banu of Rani Nagar and Rashida Banu of Binodpur were arrested and handed over to Boalia police on Saturday. District election officer Sayed Muhammad Musa said they have detected seven more people who tried to enlist names from more than one place in the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) area. They are Azizul Haque, Mussamat Champa, Muhammad Sanaullah, Sanowar Hossain, Mahfuzul Hassan, Rabiul Awal Bablu and Saiful Islam. They went into hiding On contact, the arrested women said their husband's and father's houses are situated in the corporation area. So, they tried to enlist their names as voters from the two places. When contacted, Boalia police station duty officer assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Abu Taher said legal action would be taken against the arrestees. Earlier, army personnel picked up six people for trying to register their names as voters from two other places in the city corporation area on October 31.
