Rajshahi farmers agitate for irrigation
Hundreds of agitated farmers in Bakshimuil union of Mohanpur upazila in Rajshahi yesterday staged a demonstration in front of local Borandra Unnayan Office demanding immediate repair of deep tube-well pipelines for smooth supply water in the area.
Being informed by the Borandra development project authorities, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Farmers said pipeline lines under the project went out of order two months ago. They informed the authorities concerned to repair the pipelines several times but they did not pay heed to their call. They said potato and Rabi crop on at least 500 decimals of land in the area are at stake due to water crisis. They also mentioned negligence of the concerned engineer in this regard.
When contacted, Borandra development project engineer Shafiqul Islam said, ' I am not aware about the matter as I joined here on Thursday'.
