Ex-Jamaat MP Sobhan found involved in CI sheet scam
ACC also finds former Pabna BNP lawmaker Habib guilty
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found involvement of former lawmakers Moulana Abdus Subhan of Jamaat-e-Islami and Salim Reza Habib of BNP in misappropriation of government CI sheets distributed as relief.
Sobhan was elected from Pabna-5 constituency (Bera-Sujanagar upazilas) and Habib from Pabna-5 (Pabna Sadar) in the last parliamentary election.
Both the former lawmakers are now on bail, granted by the High Court, after cases were filed against them when the CI sheets were recovered in raids by joint forces following declaration of emergency.
“We have completed investigation into the cases against former Jamaat MP Moulana Abdus Subhan and BNP MP Salim Reza Habib for misappropriation CI sheets of government relief fund”, ACC Assistant Director in Pabna Md. Rashidur Reza told this correspondent yesterday.
“Their involvement in misappropriation of government CI sheets was found during probe”, he said. The investigation reports have been sent to ACC head office in Dhaka for directive on next course of action, he said.
Joint forces during a drive on February 18 seized 370 CI sheets from different establishments run or built by former BNP MP Habib. These included Malifa Salim Reza Habib Degree College and Jakia Habib College, established by Habib.
A case was filed against Habib and two others with Sijanagar police station. The case was later handed over to Anti Corruption Commission for investigation.
Pabna police seized 160 government CI sheets from Al-Amana Hospital, an organization of Al-Amana Foundation, at Pathertala in Pabna town on June 20. Al Amana Hospital is an establishment of former Jamaat lawmaker Moulana Abdus Subhan.
A case was filed with Pabna Sadar police station against Subhan and three other Jamaat leaders for misappropriating government CI sheets.
The case was also handed over to ACC for investigation. Pabna ACC may press charge sheets against them if the head office gives directive, sources in the anti-graft body said.
