219 fertiliser bags seized: 2 arrested

Police seized 219 bags of fertiliser in Rangpur and Pabna yesterday and Monday. Police also arrested two persons in Rangpur. Our Rangpur correspondent reports: Police seized 172 bags of fertiliser including TSP and MOP and arrested a fertiliser trader and his salesman from Taraganj bazaar yesterday morning. Acting on secret information, police intercepted two rickshaws with 10 bags of fertiliser at Kellabari in Taraganj upazila, police said. The rickshaw pullers said to police that Shafiqul Islam, a fertiliser trader at Taraganj had hired them to carry the bags of fertilizer to Kishorganj in Nilphamari, Taraganj police station officer-in-charge (OC) said. Later, police led by Taraganj upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Saiful Islam raided the business establishment of Shafiqul Islam at Taraganj bazaar and seized 162 bags of fertiliser kept there illegally. Police arrested Shafiqul Islam and his salesman Abdul Majid on charge of illegal trade of fertiliser and produced them before a court from where they were sent them to Rangpur Central Jail. Our Pabna correspondent reports: Santhia police seized 47 bags of urea fertilizer from Kashinathpur Monday evening, police and locals said. Acting on a tip-off, a mobile team of police rushed to Kashinathpur school from where they seized the urea bags which were left in an abandoned state.
