God save Biman!
Firstly, I would congratulate Captain Sattar for his article in a national daily regarding creation of Bangladesh Biman, our national airline with an apprehension. He deserves thanks for speaking out some disturbing facts regarding the draconian administration of Biman & Civil Aviation since inception.
We have come to know the background of Biman's birth story. The nation also wants to know the 'conspiracy' (he pointed out) behind the DC-3 crash on 10 February 1972.We have seen many conspiracies for centuries. Once these are allowed to come to light the people can be identified, their motives can be known, then only recurrence can be stopped. As the writer hinted to take on the issue at a later date, we will eagerly wait & see.
I also agree fully with his apprehension of collapsing Biman one day like that of DC-3 aircraft, if the present situation in the overall administration continues. Many people do not understand why the positive attitude of the govt is not visible in the aviation sector. The Honourable Minister agreed Civil Aviation is a "Durnitir Akhra", then why cannot we see some positive results? Recently, Chairman CAAB agreed that he misunderstood a case of issuing technical clearance to an operator for bringing an aircraft to Bangladesh. He also agreed he has unskilled people with inadequate knowledge on the specified subjects.
When will Bangladesh be able to regain its Category-1 (meeting International standard) status to operate aircraft worldwide with dignity? Are we giving enough endeavours to that effect? When will we achieve that? After 5 years? 10 years?? 20 years??? Any positive & effective work plan in place? Who are the people working towards that goal? Retired people from Biman, CAAB? Who are above 70 years of age? Serving defence officials? BCS cadres?
I also apprehend like Capt Sattar that this way it will not work. It has not worked anywhere in the civilised world. Good sense should prevail at the right level. Only LOGO change will not really change anything. Thanks to Capt Sattar for tempting me to react.
