Collegiate School reunion heldThe two-day reunion of Chittagong Collegiate School concluded in the port city on Saturday. Celebration of the reunion began with a colourful procession participated by the former students of the school. The former students attended the programmes along with their family members and passed time amid enthusiasm, festive mood and recollection of sweet memories of school life. A discussion was also held in the second day where litterateur Mustafa Nurul Islam was present as the chief guest with Fazlus Sobhan Chowdhury in the chair. Prof Anisuzzaman emphasised creating more awareness to ensure proper practice of Bangla language and culture. He urged the former students of Bangla Department of Chittagong University to work in this regard. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Reunion-2010 of the former students of Bangla Department of Chittagong University (CU) at the picturesque Foy's Lake on Saturday. Bangla Sammilan, an organisation of former students of the department, organised the programme. Prof Dr Maniruzzaman, Dr Laila Zaman and Executive President of Bangla Sammilan Biswajit Chowdhury spoke at the discussion with Bangla Sammilan President Ovik Osman in the chair. The 9th Charter Family Night of Lions Club of Chittagong City was celebrated at a community centre in the port city on Friday. Lions District Governor Shah M Hasan was the chief guest at the ceremony chaired by the Club President Uttam Kumar Das. M Hasan in his speech said members of Lions Club are working for welfare of all section of people and the service will continue in future. Immediate Past District Governor SM Ishaq attended the ceremony as the special guest while Vice District Governor -1 Mohammad Aslam Chowdhury, Vice District Governor-2 Nurul Islam and Charter Night Organising Committee Chairman Jhulan Kumar Das attended the function. A cricket tournament of hawkers began at Chittagong College Ground here on Saturday. Dwin Islam Smriti Sangsad organised the tournament titled “Dwin Islam Smriti Gold Cup Cricket Tournament”. Sixteen teams participating in the tournament. Businessman Nurun Nabi was the chief guest and Chittagong Sangbadpatra Hawkers' Samity President Obaidul Haq Majumder special guest at the inaugural ceremony with organisation president Osman Gani Tipu in the chair. On the opening day Zia Bazar Eleven defeated Jubo Shakti Club by 42 runs and Baluardighi Eleven defeated Shatabdi by one wicket. Asad and Shubha were the man of the match in the matches. The biennial general meeting of the workers and employees union of Hotel Saint Martin was held on Saturday. President of Bangladesh Trade Union Centre Chittagong district unit Tapan Dutta was the chief guest at the meeting with workers union President Md Tajul Islam Bhuiyan in the chair. General Secretary of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) Nazim Uddin Shyamal was the special guest at the meeting while union General Secretary Md Kamruzzaman placed annual report. Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury emphasised the need for formulating proper plans for development of information and communication sector to keep pace with the developed countries. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a science fair organised by Bangladesh Council for Science and Industrial Research (BCSIR) Laboratory at Balu Chhara in the city on Thursday as the chief guest. Mohiuddin called upon all to work together to build a prosperous Bangladesh. He said children should be grown up as technology-minded one to achieve the goal. BCSIR Member Finance Mezbah Uddin and Chittagong Education Board Chairman Prof Abu Zafar Chowdury attended the ceremony as the special guests.
