It has been reported in a national daily that 4 private airline operators have eaten up the passengers' travel tax, which was supposed to be paid to the govt.
As it is convenient for the passengers to pay the tax with the ticket while buying it, the system of collecting taxes by the operators was introduced.
But the Devils took the chance. Monthly return was not raised, actions were not taken against the defaulters for months, years. In fact, they allowed the debt to rise above Tk 130 million!
Even a request by the tax department to stop the aircraft operation was also ignored. This is how the tax payers' money is allowed to be laundered by dishonest businessman (?).We are spellbound to know that the minister concerned does not know anything about it !
We want to see the culprits brought to book.
