'Follow prophet to establish peace'
Speakers at a discussion on Saturday called to end racial discrimination following the ideal of Prophet Muhammad (SM) to help establish peace in the world. Jilani Complex Bangladesh organised the discussion to celebrate Eid-e-Miladunnabi and Fateha Yajdaham at Central Jame Mashjid of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) at Joypahar Surson Road. Prof Jamal Nazrul Islam spoke at the discussion as the chief guest and BPC Chairman Muhammad Anwarul Karim as the special guest. BPC Secretary Nurul Amin and social worker Kabir Chowdhury also spoke at the meeting with Principal ANM Delwar Hossain Al Quaderi in the chair. Awami League lawmaker and Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President MA Latif expressed concern over anti-social activities taking place in the fairs in the port city. In a statement on Thursday Latif alleged that a section of anti-social and unscrupulous people are involved with anti-social activities like gambling, housie and variety shows in the name of Independence Day Fair at as many as 38 points in the city. Such anti-social activities are tarnishing image of the government and disrupting peaceful and business-friendly atmosphere in the city, he said. He called for cooperation from local administration and people to resist such anti-social activities and proper punishment to those involved. Rural dev stressed for poverty cut
Speakers at a workshop emphasised rural development for poverty alleviation in the society. Chittagong University (CU) Finance and Banking Department organised the workshop on 'Rural development scheme' under the auspices of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited. Addressing as the chief guest the workshop Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Alauddin underscored the need for increasing research on poverty alleviation through rural development. Prof Dr Harunur Rashid and Islami Bank Deputy Managing Director Nurul Islam were the special guest and guest of honour at the opening session of the workshop with Prof Dr Begum Ismat Ara in the chair. 'Ensure trial of war criminals'
Aswachchhal and Bhumihin Muktijoddha Parishad, an organisation of financially insolvent and landless freedom fighters, celebrated Independence Day with a slogan for ensuring trial of war criminals. On this occasion, the Parishad organised elaborate programme including discussion and cultural function at Mozzafarabad Shaheed Smrii Primary School on Friday. Local Awami League leader Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury was the chief guest at the discussion with Parishad Founding President Jatindra Lal Nandi in the chair. Engineer Arun Datt, Advocate Joygopal Chowdhury, Bidhan Roy Chowdhury, Ardhendu Bikash Nandi and Kantima Gosh spoke at the discussion. Permanent trade fair venue to be set up
A permanent venue of international standard for holding trade fair would be constructed in Chittagong soon with the help of China and a development agency. State Minister for Forest and Environment Dr Hasan Mahmud said this while he was addressing as the chief guest the closing ceremony of Chittagong International Trade Fair in the port city on Saturday. Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) organised the month-long trade fair. CCCC Senior Vice-President MA Salam, Vice-President SM Shafiul Haq and Trade Fair Committee Chairman SM Abu Tayab also spoke with CCCI President MA Latif MP in the chair. Later, Dr Hasan gave away prizes among best pavilions and booths. In Premier Gold Pavilion Group Unilever Bangladesh Limited and Ottobi Limited became champion and runners-up while Moushumi Industries Limited was adjudged the best mini mega pavilion. Abul Khair Milk Products Limited and Banglalion Communications Limited were adjudged champion and runners-up in Standard Pavilion category. Ahmad Rashid Amu and Sanjoy Dev Khokon were elected president and general secretary of Chattagram Daal Mill Babshayee Samity on Saturday. The election was held at its office at Haq Super Market of Khatunganj in the city. The other office-bearers are Vice-Presidents: Hafez Harun and Pulin Bishwas, Joint Secretary: Ashutosh Mahajan, Treasurer: Jyotinmoy Chowdhury Kajol, Organising Secretary: Bikash Dewanjee and Accounts Examiner: Paritosh Dey. Executive committee members are Saiful Islam, Md Yusuf and Md Abul Mansur.
