Why suicide?

Shahriar Kabir, HSC examinee 2010, Notre Dame College, Eskaton Garden Govt. Officers' Quarters Dhaka
Committing suicide is a malady which has suddenly started to grip the young generation of our country. Every day, unfolding the morning newspaper, I am greatly dismayed and astonished to find reports on youths who have chosen the route to death by themselves. Just a few days back, a schoolgirl committed suicide because her parents were too busy to take her to the Baishakhi Mela. Last Saturday, an HSC student committed suicide because she feared that she hadn't written all the answers properly. Even a young man took his own life after being refused. And girls are committing suicide after facing harassment. But my question is, what is the point of such self destruction? I myself am an HSC examinee this year, so I know I am young, but I have my own philosophy about life. My life is a sacred gift presented to me by The Almighty Allah and I have absolutely no right to waste it. All major religions support this view. I earnestly urge the guardians to be more tolerant. The young generation should also respect their elders and keep themselves away from any unsocial affairs and crimes. If anyone wants to protest against something, he has got thousands of ways to do so. Committing suicide is not a symbol of protest, it is the sign of ultimate cowardice and despondency.
