World Veterinary Day observedSpeakers at a discussion here on Saturday emphasised the need for integrated efforts of veterinarians and general physicians for development of public health. The discussion was organised by Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) in cooperation with Bangladesh Veterinary Association, Chittagong chapter marking the “World Veterinary Day-2010” at the university auditorium. CVASU Vice Chancellor Dr Nitish Chandra Devnath was the chief guest at the discussion with the Association President Dr Mohammad Farhad Hossain in the chair. Speakers said CVASU introduced the movement titled “One World, One Health” and the movement is going on in Bangladesh. They also underscored the need for creating awareness about protecting the diseases which have been transmitting to human health from the animal health. CVASU Dairy and Poultry Science Department Lecturer Marjina Akter presented the keynote paper on the theme “One World, One Health: More cooperation between veterinarians and physicians. CVASU Veterinary Medicine Faculty Dean Prof Dr MA Matin Prodhan was the special guest at the discussion while the association General Secretary Prof Dr AKM Saifuddin spoke. A human chain was formed at Patiya on Thursday demanding removal of roadside encroachers and an increase in number of roads to reduce accident that claims lives very often. Alert and Advance, a social welfare organisation, organised the programme at Patiya Police Station intersection under Patiya upazila in the district in cooperation with Bangabandhu Parishad, Jafor Smriti Sangsad and Shaheed Paribar Kalyan Parishad. Speakers at the programme said a section of dishonest members of the law enforcement agencies and vehicles without registration and driving licence are responsible for road accidents. They urged the government to take immediate steps to save people's life reducing the road accident. Apollo Hospitals Dhaka organised a seminar on “Updates on advanced patient care management” for the physicians of Chittagong at a hotel in the port city on Thursday. Two hundred and fifty doctors from Chittagong metropolitan and its adjacent areas took part in the seminar. Apollo Hospitals Medical Services Director Dr Mohammad Naseem Siddiq put up the hospital's infrastructure, patient safety measure, infection control procedure, medical records repository and unique waste management system. Apollo Fertility Centre Coordinator and Senior Consultant Dr Mrinal Kumar Sarker also put up the modern and unique of fertility treatment modalities of the hospital. Speakers at a condolence meeting on Sunday said contribution of Moinul Ahsan Siddiqui to journalism for around 60 years will play a significant role in promoting spirit of patriotism among the next generation journalists. Moinul was a veteran member of Chittagong Press Club and founding editor of The Daily Commercial Times. Chittagong Press Club (CPC) and Chittagong Union of Journalists' (CUJ) jointly organised the meeting at the CPC auditorium. Primary and Mass Education Minister Mohammad Afsarul Ameen urged the people to send their children to school for materialising the dream of “Digital Bangladesh”. While inaugurating a newly-constructed building of Baralia Government Primary School at Patiya upazila as the chief guest, he said the government has taken a number of initiatives to develop quality of education and is also committed to ensuring 100 percent literacy by 2015. The School Managing Committee and Chittagong Union of Journalist (CUJ) President Shahid Ul Alam presided over the inaugural ceremony while Primary Education Department Director General Shyamal Kanti Ghosh, District Primary Education Officer Debesh Chandra Bhattacharya and CUJ General Secretary Nazimuuddin Shayamal also spoke at the function.
