Rehab's obligations
Rehab's cooperation is necessary to save the dying Dhaka from overcrowding effects. New official regulations may be promulgated for implementation by REHAB members (the house-building construction companies) in the following areas:
1) Construction of exterior emergency evacuation staircase outside the multi-storied buildings. At present all windows are sealed with iron grills, making escape impossible.
2) Strengthening of fire-fighting services within the premises.
3) Construction of rainwater tank at site.
4) Foundation work for immediate or future installation of solar panels.
5) Reinforcing anti-earthquake measures; as Bangladesh falls within the danger zone.
6) Maintain minimum distances with neighbouring high-rise buildings, as also minimum open spaces.
7) The verandas are too small or too narrow. The upper portion of the veranda need not have grills.
