Disaster management

With the mounting global warming and climate change, intensity of natural calamities in Bangladesh as well as other parts of the world is increasing. A number of strikes, in dissimilar form of cataclysm, are swiftly escalating each year. Earlier, after ten to fifteen years, we would face a large-scale flood or cyclone. But in recent years, both in quality and quantity, it has increased in our region. The preparation to cope with such calamities, right this year, should start with allocating a reasonable amount of money in the proposed national budget. After any disaster, generally, our government officials initiate the process of helping the affected community. For traditional bureaucratic complexities, each year, it takes much time to reach the affected areas. By this time, lives and resources are damaged. As it has become a 'common issue' and the rate of strike will increase each year, we should allocate a realistic amount to face these difficulties. To me, it should be in two phases, one is central and another in regional. We know which areas, in general, are in a vulnerable position. So, the districts concerned can be brought under special care. An amount can be allocated for those districts at the beginning of the fiscal year. The local government of those regions, with assistance of local administration, will prepare themselves for probable disaster management. For the construction of protection centres, constructing dams and roads, training up the volunteers, tree plantations etc those funds can be utilized. Moreover, 'hard cash support' will facilitate them to procure pure drinking water, and have emergency food support and medicines within the least possible time.
