Call to help achieve Vision 2021
Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President MA Latif on Sunday hailed the newly elected board of directors of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI). Latif, also an Awami League lawmaker, hoped that the apex trade body under the new leadership would carryout activities to help achieve Vision 2021. In a message to the newly elected FBCCI President AK Azad and directors, Chittagong chamber president also expected that FBCCI would move with the forward march for building a “Digital Bangladesh” as declared by the government. He urged the new office-bearers of the apex trade body to proceed with privatisation objectives and help remove obstacles like bureaucratic hassle that stand on the way of flourishing business, employment and economy. The 25th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL) was held in the port city on Saturday with a commitment to contribute more to the field of maritime and road communications. Presiding over the AGM Bangladesh Steel and Engineering (BSEC) Chairman Mohammad Abu Hafiz lauded the governing body and management of the CDDL for making a profit of about Tk 5.14 crore as against the targeted amount of Tk 4 crore 25.53 lakh. Abu Hafiz, also CDDL chairman, emphasised increasing repair work of local and foreign ocean-going vessels and repairing worn out and damaged bailey bridges of roads and highway department throughout the country to contribute more to maritime and road communication fields. He also called for accelerating activities to get government approval for setting up a separate dry dock for building ocean-going ships and BMRE (Balancing, Modernisation, Renovation and Expansion) of the company. Three representatives from Prime Minister's Office Mosammat Lutfunnahar Begum, Mohammad Aminur Rasul and Dr Dipak Ranjan Sengupta, BSC Executive Director Md Sayeed Ullah, CPA member (Harbour and Marine) Captain Sheikh Arif Mahmud, Deputy Secretary Niamul Haq of Industries Ministry, BSEC General Manager (Board) Md Idris Akon and Company Secretary Md Abul Bashar Khan attended the AGM while CDDL Managing Director Engineer Enamul Haq made address of welcome. Chittagong University (CU) authorities are committed to run the university as a university of international standard and free from any sort of session jam, said Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Abu Yusuf. Prof Yusuf sought cooperation and support from students, teachers, guardians as well as senate members to stand against any sort of unruly activities and help uphold image of the university. Addressing the 22nd annual senate session of the university on Tuesday, he urged the teachers to get engaged in research to improve teaching ability and standard of education. He said CU expects a good allocation from Tk 600 crore of the financial assistance the World Bank promised to provide for research activities to develop standard of teaching. Pro-VC Prof Dr Md Alauddin also attended the senate session where Acting Registrar Prof Dr Mohammad Shah Alam presented a revised budget of Tk 94.60 crore of the university for 2009-2010 financial year and a budged of Tk 112.90 crore for 2010-2011. Senate members Prof Dr Muhammad Shamsuddin, Prof Dr Nurul Anwar, Dr Md Manzoor-Ul-Ameen Chowdhury, Prof Hasanuzzaman Chowdhury, Prof Dr Golam Kibria Bhuiyan, Prof ANM Munir Ahmad, Prof Dr Imran Hossain, and SM Fazlul Haq took part in the discussion on the budget and the VC's speech. Newly established fishing gear provider SRL Cosmos Trawl Ltd organised a workshop introducing the latest fishing accessories and modern technology of fishing. Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Abdul Latif Siddiqui was the chief guest at the inaugural function of the workshop titled “Modern fishing equipment” held at SRL Cosmos Trawl of Sea Resources Complex at Ichanagar on Saturday. Latif Siddiqui in his speech hoped that the latest fishing accessories and modern technology would help fish in the deep sea and assured support of his ministry to any initiative that can benefit the fishing sector. Danish Ambassador Einer H Jensen and Fishing Secretary Sharful Alam were the guests at the ceremony presided over by SRL Cosmos Trawl Limited Chairman A Rouf Chowdhury. Six leading Danish companies specialised in manufacturing various fishing equipment and one local shipyard specialised in building modern deep sea fishing trawlers took part in the workshop. Aramit Limited declared 65 percent dividend for the year 2009 at its 39th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at hotel in the city on Saturday. Of the declared dividend, 50 percent were announced for stock dividend and 15 percent for cash dividend. The company governing body Chairman and Managing Director Saiduzzaman Chowdhury presided over the meeting while directors Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Mohammad Iftekharuzzaman, Alfaz Uddin Ahmed, Kafil Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, SM Jamal Ahmed, SM Rezaur Rahman, the company Executive Director and Secretary Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, Auditor Shawkat Hossain and a good number of shareholders also attended theAGM.
