Goethe Institute Bangladesh and Mastermind International School, Chittagong signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday aiming at supporting students' enthusiasm for German language. Goethe-Institute Director Angela Gruenert and Principal Ghulam Abu Muhammad of Mastermind International School, Chittagong signed the memorandum. Visiting German State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office Martin Biesel and the German Ambassador to Bangladesh Holger Michael were present at the signing ceremony held at the residence of Honorary Consul General of Germany Shakir Ispahani at Surson Road. With the signing the English medium school joined the German Language Partner School Programme (PASCH) run by the Goethe Institute. On the occasion, Angela Grunert in her welcome speech said PASCH offers German language classes and access to an exclusive and high standard international school exchange programme to selected schools in the partner countries. Thanking to the participating organisations and schools that joined PASCH, Biesal said language is the key to understand cultures of the two countries. “The German government initiated the PASCH to build up network among 1500 schools in a world wide network that is helping exchange language, culture between the countries,” Biesal told The Daily star. Samajtantrik Mahila Forum gave a memorandum to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs through Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chittagong on Monday demanding a separate law to stop stalking and sexual harassment and violence against women. In the memorandum they said killing, rape, acid throwing on women and dowry are increasing in our society day by day. They also demanded amendment to law so that the stalkers, persecutors and porno CD and books traders can not escape through loopholes in the law. After a month long mass signature campaign in the city against stalking and violence against women, the leaders of the organisation submitted the MoU to DC. They demanded stern action and exemplary punishment to Moniuddin, a former imam of a local mosque, who raped a class two student at Patharghata under Kotwali Police Station on Saturday. Prabartak Sangha Rakkha O Sangrakkhan Committee formed a human chain in front of Chittagong Press Club on Thursday protesting activities of Prabartak Sangha Managing Committee. Rakhal Dasgupta, Trustee of Bangladesh Hindu Welfare Trust, Nidhu Palit, former secretary of Mahanagar Puja Udjapan Parishad, Advocate Mridul Guha, chief of the steering committee of Prabartak Rakkha O Sangrakkhan Committee, Advocate Tapan Kanti Das, secretary of Janmashtami Udjapan Parishad Chittagong, Syed Golam Haider Mintu, word councillor Dr Timir Baran Chowdhury, president of Mahanagar Puja Udjapan Parishad and Advocate Chandan Talukder addressed a rally during the human chain. Justice S K Sinha of the Appellate division said the society and law are complementary so law can be changed for the need of the society. He was speaking at Vijoya Sammilan ceremony organised by Chattagram Ainjibi Vijoya Sammilan Parishad-2010 on Thursday. He said, “Only the lawmakers have the right to formulate or change any law. The Bishop of Chittagong Diocese (Dharmapradesh) Patrick D Rosario CSC has been appointed the Archbishop of Dhaka Arch (Mahadharmapradesh) by the Pope, XVI Benedict, says a press release. The Archbishop of Dhaka, Poulinus Kosta, D.D, who is the president of Archbishop Association declared the appointment of Patrick D Rosario as Coadjutor Archbishop on Thursday at Catholic Bishop Conference of Bangladesh (CBCB) centre. Patrick D Rosario was born on October 1, 1943 in Barisal. He studied at different institutions including Notre Dame College in Dhaka and Christ the King Major Seminary in Karachi, Pakistan. He took higher education from University of Luvein, Belgium. He was adjudicated as the Bishop of Rajshahi Dharmapradesh on October 8, 1972 and as the Bishop of Chittagong on February 3, 1995. Patrick D Rosario, vice president of Bangladesh Bishop Association, is the acting chairman of education and devotee of Bishop Association, it said.
