Stop building structures
HC asks govt
The High Court yesterday directed the government to take steps for stopping construction of structures in Amoligola Math at Lalbagh in the city for next three months.
An HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain also asked all concerned to maintain status quo on construction of structures in the ground following a writ petition.
It also issue a rule upon the government to explain within three weeks why it should not be directed to remove all structures built in the field.
The bench came up with the order and rule after hearing the petition filed as public interest litigation by Md Reazuddin, a former footballer of national team, seeking necessary order for protecting the Amoligola math.
Petitioner's counsel Manzill Murshid told the court that a group of land grabbers influenced by a former lawmaker grabbed Amoligola Math, popularly known as Edgah and Shishu Park. The land grabbers have built structures illegally damaging its environment.
Deputy Attorney General ABM Altaf Hossain was present for the government.
