Foreign Secretary of Sri Lanka Chrysantha Romesh Jayasinghe will arrive here today on a 3-day official visit to Bangladesh to hold first-ever foreign secretary level consultation between the two countries. The consultation will take place at State Guest House Meghna tomorrow (Jan 26) when Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes will lead Bangladesh delegation. The consultation is scheduled under a protocol signed in April 2003, which provides an institutional forum for review of the full range of Bangladesh-Sri Lanka bilateral relations. According to the foreign ministry officials, Jayasinghe's visit is expected to deepen the existing friendly relations between the two nations, boost trade and business, and open new avenues for further cooperation. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are closely engaged in regional cooperation through Saarc, Bimstec, IORARC, etc. On arrival, Jayasinghe will pay a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at her office today.
