Mirza Fakhrul granted bail

A Dhaka court yesterday granted bail to BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a defamation case filed for his derogatory comments about State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam. Metropolitan Magistrate Dilara Alo Chandana passed the order after Fakhrul along with his lawyers appeared before the court and sought bail in the case. The court also fixed March 14 for hearing on charge framing against the BNP leader in the case. Advocate Abdul Malek alias Moshiur Malek, founder and president of Bangabandhu Foundation, filed the case against Fakhrul on July 18, 2010. In his statement, the complainant alleged that Fakhrul termed Qamrul 'insane' at a discussion organised by Zia Parishad at the National Press Club in the city on July 14 last year.
