11 killed, 36 injured in road crashes
Eleven people, including an Egyptian, were killed and 36 others injured in separate road accidents in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Dinajpur on Monday and yesterday.
Our Rangpur correspondent reports: A head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Pirganj upazila killed four people and injured 20.
Two of the deceased were identified as bus driver Jamal Uddin, 45, of Narayanganj and its passenger Anjuara Khatun, 35, of Lalmonirhat.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Din Mohammad of Boro Darga Highway Police outpost said a Rangpur-bound bus collided with a Bogra-bound truck near Jagannathpur area at about 5:00am, leaving three passengers dead on the spot and injuring 21 others.
Another passenger succumbed to his injures at Pirganj Upazila Health Complex.
The collision took place for poor visibility due to dense fog, the SI said.
Our Mymensingh correspondent adds: Md Bin Farid, 35, a Egyptian citizen, died on the spot when a microbus hit an iron-rod laden truck from behind on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka Sadar upazila due to dense fog.
The Mymensingh-bound microbus was carrying 11 Egyptian nationals, including Farid, and five Bangladeshis.
Of the injured, five Egyptian citizensAhmed Ali Hamed Badar, 58, Md Bin Abdul Aziz, 50, Abdul Sattar Rashed, 50, Ahmed Bin Fatta Yusuf, 52, Abdus Salam Bin Ahmed, 55, -- and Bangladeshi national Sahabuddin, 40, were admitted to Mymensingh Medical Hospital.
In another accident, two motorbike riders were killed as a goods-laden truck rammed their motorcycle in Phulbaria upazila of Mymensingh at about 10:30am.
The deceased Eshaq, 32 and Helal, 28, hailed from Jalka village in Muktagachha upazila, said officer-in-charge Kazi Saidur Rahman.
Our correspondent from Rajshahi says: Two people were killed and seven others injured as a bus hit a local human hauler at Choddopai in the city around 8:00am, Sub Inspector Mahbub Hossain of Motihar Police Station said.
Abdul Awal, 35, died on the spot while Kamal Hossain 38, succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Our Dinajpur correspondent adds: Two people were killed including a SSC examinee and three others injured in two separate road accidents in the district yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Md Abdul Goni 45, General Secretary of Union AL of Hawabganj upazila and Shanjoy Chandra Monhanta 16, a SSC examinee of Binnakuri High School, son of Dulal Chandra Mohanta village Dakkhin Alokdihi of Chirirbandar upazila.
Police said a Dhaka-bound speedy truck crushed Shanjoy on Dinajpur-Dhaka highway in front of Brac office of Ranirbandar village, leaving him dead on the spot.
In another accident, one was killed on the spot and another three people were injured at Nawabganj upazila on Monday evening.
Sources said the accident occurred when a speedy truck hit from behind a motorcycle carrying three people, leaving Abdul Goni dead on the spot and injured two other riders of the motorcycle and a passerby.
Our correspondent from Kishoreganj says: A boy was killed in a road accident at Nayapara in Sadar upazila on Monday.
The deceased is Irfan, 7, son of Mustafa Kamal of Nayapara village.
The accident took place when a Kishoreganj-bound speedy Tomtom (three-wheeler) crushed the boy under its wheel while he was playing in front of his house. Later, he succumbed to his injuries at Kishoreganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital.
