Doctor declares unborn dead
Ultrasonogram of the rape victim of Comilla sadar, performed at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday, showed that her seven-month old foetus was not responding and doctors initially declared it dead.
The victim, who sustained 76 percent burns on her body, will now be treated at the gynecology department of DMCH.
A student of class eight, she was seven months into pregnancy after being raped by her 35-year-old neighbour Taleb in Comilla sadar and was set on fire by him and his accomplice Josna on Sunday in a bid to deny his paternity.
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Jahangir Alam of Comilla Sadar South Police station told The Daily Star that Josna was produced before the court with a five-day remand prayer and they are yet to know how many days were granted.
The IO said teams sent to different areas are trying to arrest Taleb and locals are also extending their cooperation in this regard.
Advocate Dipti Shikder of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, dealing the case, said they want punishment of the culprits responsible for such a brutal crime.
