Address social issues through art

Speakers yesterday stressed the need for addressing the social issues and problems through various art forms to make people conscious about their right. “We always look to West but never look to neighbour,” they said addressing a regional conference. The theatre activists and art performers should exchange their culture and heritage to strengthen the relationship and build up a prosperous future nation, they added. They were addressing a two-day long conference titled 'Asia regional conference on Theatre for Development' on BITA Trust premises at Patiya in Chittagong. Drama personality also President of International Theatre Institute Ramendu Mazumder inaugurated the conference with BITA Executive Committee President Abul Mansur in the chair. They said present world is full of multifarious activities, which brings people together. Mentioning the necessity of theater they said many social issues, problems and sorrows of people can be addressed artistically that help people to be conscious. After inauguration Babul Jaladas and his troupe presented a fascinating drum performance. Loonibha Tuladhar, director of Mandala Theatre of Nepal, Prof Gim Changhwa of Sangmyung University of Korea, Subodh Patnaik, director of Natya Chetana of India and Dr Israfil Ahmed, lecturer of Drama department of Jahangirnagar University were present in the inaugural programme.
