Digital Bangladesh

'Only computerisation not enough'

Staff Correspondent
Sole focus on computerisation is not enough to achieve a digital Bangladesh as progress in science is fundamental to technological advances. The opinion came at a dialogue on Science and Technology in Bangladesh media at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital yesterday. “Technology is merely a by-product of science,” said Golap Munir of the monthly Computer Jagat, “therefore, science should always receive preference over technology.” The speakers also said everyone in Bangladesh is running after technology without paying attention to science. Journalists are not scientists, but they also have responsibility, said Prof M Shamsher Ali, president of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. Bangladesh has a pool of talent but nobody knows them due to the lack of media coverage. Bangladesh Science Writers and Journalists' Forum organised the event with its president Prof Muhammad Ibrahim in the chair.
