'Call off strike for World Cup Cricket'

Bss, Dhaka
Leaders of different political parties yesterday urged BNP to withdraw tomorrow's hartal saying that it would hamper the preparation of the World Cup Cricket alongside by side with increasing sufferings of the people. "The hosting of World Cup Cricket in Bangladesh is a matter of pride. But calling hartal before the gala event, will certainly disrupt its preparation along with increasing sufferings of the people," Senior Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta told the news agency. Suranjit said the government has reconsidered setting up airport at Arial Beel, while no case was recorded against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for killing of policeman. "So there is no justification of enforcing hartal at this moment," he said. Suranjit also urged the opposition to call off hartal. Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon said there is no issue in the hands of BNP for which they enforce haratl just 10 days before the World Cup. Mujahidul Islam Selim and General Secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Sharif Nurul Ambia also spoke at the programme.
