Increase 'economic diplomacy'
Says president
President Zillur Rahman emphasised on increasing 'economic diplomacy' alongside attracting more foreign investment in the country with a view to achieving the goals of 'Vision-2021'.
The president made the remark while inaugurating the formal launching of the 'Forum of Consuls in Bangladesh' (FCB) at a function at Sonargoan Hotel in the city yesterday.
Planning Minister Air Vice Marshal (retd) AK Khandker and World Federation of Consuls President Arnold Foote were the special guests at the function, also addressed by FCB Chairman AKM Shahidul Islam and FCB Founder Chairman Salahuddin Kasem Khan.
Addressing the function as the chief guest, Zillur said the government declared 'Vision-2021' to transform Bangladesh as a middle-income country by the time it celebrates the golden jubilee of independence.
He said, “We have to increase economic diplomacy and encourage foreign investments to achieve the goals of 'Vision-2021'.”
The president urged the honorary consuls in Bangladesh, representing many countries, to make efforts alongside the government to find ways so that a large number of Bangladeshi manpower could be sent abroad.
He said many countries have no clear idea about the favourable socio-economic situation in Bangladesh as well as its economic potential, investment-friendly environment, availability of skilled and unskilled manpower and positive attitude of the government.
