Road crashes kill 13, hurt 22
Thirteen people were killed and 22 others injured in road accidents in Dhaka, Narsingdi, Chapainawabganj, Dinajpur, Khulna, Narayanganj, Satkhira and Jhenidah yesterday.
A head-on collision between two trucks left a helper killed and five other people were injured near Cnadrima Udyan around 2:00am yesterday while another person was crushed under the wheels of an unknown vehicle at Shewrapara.
Helper Badal Miah, 40, of died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Both the trucks got severely damaged.
Meanwhile, an unknown youth was found dead on the road at East Shewrapara in the morning. Police said an unknown vehicle crushed him sometime at night.
Our Correspondent from Narsingdi reports: Four people were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
Ismail Hossain, 45, of Nabinagar upazila, Fatema Begum, 45, Khadija Begum, 44, and Tania Akhtar, 23, of Birampur village in Sadar upazila died instantly.
SP Dr Akkasuddin Bhuiyan of the district said a Dhaka-bound bus from Narsingdi collided head-on with another bus coming from opposite direction at Madhabdi at about 8:30am.
Chapainawabganj Correspondent adds: Van puller Yousuf Ali, 38, son of Ibrahim Ali, died on the spot as a bus in a road accident on Chapainwabganj-Rajshahi Highway at his village Uporazarampur in the town yesterday morning.
In Narayanganj, A physically challenged woman was killed when a bus hit her on Dhaka-Narayanganj link road at Jaalkuri in Sadar upazila at 10:30am yesterday.
Rawshan Ara Begum, 35, daughter of Fakir Chand of Bhuigarh West Para in Siddhirganj upazila, died instantly.
Staff Correspondent from Khulna reports: Mustafizur Rahman Choton, 25, of Nirala residential area, was crushed under wheels of a truck in front of Sonadanga Police Station in the city at about 9:00am yesterday.
Our Correspondent from Dinajpur adds: A man and his seven year old daughter were killed as a bus hit them in front of Birampur Degree College yesterday noon.
Angry villagers blocked the Dinajpur-Dhaka Highway till 3:00pm. The victims are Suren Chandra Roy, 44, and his daughter Mou Rani Roy of Mirzapur of Birganj upazila.
Our Correspondent from Satkhira says: A college student was killed when a bus hit his motorbike near Khanpur in Shyamnagar upazila on Satkhira-Shyamnagar Road yesterday.
Gazi Ishtiak Uddin Hira, 18, son of local journalist Salah Udddin Bappi of village Nakipur Gazipara in the upazila and student of Shyamnagar Mahsin College, died instantly.
In Jhenidah, A women was killed and two other people were injured as a bus hit their motorcycle at Chandpur bus stand in Shailkupa upazila yesterday afternoon.
Sumi, 25, daughter of Pannau Mia of Dudshar village of the upazila died instantly. Seriously injured are Pannu Mia and Sumi's baby girl Jannati. Locals blocked the road for two hours and set fire to the bus.
