12 killed, 65 injured in road accidents

Twelve people were killed and 56 others injured in road accidents in Cox's Bazar, Rangpur, Jhenidah, Chapainawabganj, and Dinajpur yesterday and Thursday night. A UNB report from Cox's Bazaar says: Five people were killed and 35 others injured in a bus-truck-microbus collision at Harbang in Chokoria upazila of the district yesterday. The five abroad the microbus died on the spot. Three of the deceased are microbus driver Imran Dostagir, 23, helper Abul Kashem, 22, and Abdul Mannan, 40, a vegetable trader. The identity of two other deceased could not be known immediately. The injured were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and local clinics. UNB from Rangpur reports: Three unidentified people died on the spot and 30 others sustained injuries as a picnic bus fell into a ditch at Mukimpur in Pirganj upazila of the district yesterday. The injured were admitted to Pirganj upazila health complex. Our Jhenidah correspondent reports: Two men were killed in separate road crashes in Jhenidah Thursday night. Dead are Alimul Hossain, 30, of the sadar upazila and Manu Mollah, 52, of Chandpur village of Shailkupa upazila. Alimul died en route to Dhaka from Jhenidah sadar hospital where he was taken after being run over by a speeding truck near Hamdah bus stand. On Thursday afternoon, a bus hit the motorcycle of Manu and her daughter Sumi at Chandpur bus stand in Shailkupa upazila, leaving Sumi dead on the spot. Manu was taken to Jhenidah sadar hospital where he succumbed to injuries Thursday night. The bodies of the father and the daughter were sent to their village home yesterday. Our Chapainawabganj correspondent says: A minor girl was killed after being run over by a power tiller at the village Gazalbari of Nachole upazila in the district yesterday morning. Brishti, 4, daughter of Jamal Uddin of the village, died on the spot. Our Dinajpur correspondent adds: A man in his 60s was killed as a speeding bus hit him at Showlia village in Ghoraghat upazila of the district yesterday evening. Tozam Munshi of the village Amra of the upazila died on the spot.
