Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants the country to adopt environment-friendly “green” technologies, even if gradually, and asked engineers to spread the use of such technologies. She was addressing the inaugural session of the 52nd Convention of Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh on its premises in the city yesterday. She underscored the need for raising engineering education to international standards, saying there is no alternative to flourishing science and technology. “After becoming an engineer its your turn to pay back to the nation and its people.” Hasina advised engineers to conduct research on producing low-cost sustainable machineries and to evolve more drought and salinity-resistance crops to meet increasing demands for food grains. Among others, IEB President Engineer SM Nazul Islam and Rajuk Chairman Engineer Nurul Huda spoke on the occasion.
