Govt to fix immigration charge

The government within next one or two months will set the immigration cost that the recruiting agencies can charge for sending students and workers abroad, said Dr Zafar Ahmed, secretary to expatriates' welfare and overseas employment ministry. “Severe complexities are prevailing in the country over immigration cost. We have formed a committee to scrutinise the cost. On basis of the committee report, we hope to finalise immigration charge by next one or two months,” he said. The secretary also said the government will form an “expatriate welfare bank” by next April to provide financial help to the poor and skilled workers. Dr Zafar was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on “Immigration cost of immigrant workers” organised by the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agency (BAIRA) at a city hotel yesterday.
