Eight killed, 10 injured in road crashes

Eight people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur, Naogaon, Manikganj, Munshiganj and Brahmanbaria on Saturday and yesterday. UNB reports from Gazipur: Two people were killed on the spot and another was injured as a log-laden pick up van hit a truck from behind at Naliateki in Sripur upazila at about 6:00am. The deceased were Samiullah, 28, owner of the logs, and Khorshed, 25, helper of the van of same upazila. UNB adds from Naogaon: Younus Ali, 25, a worker, died on the spot and four workers were injured as a sand-laden tractor fell into a ditch near Baktapur union parishad in Sadar upazila. Our correspondent from Manikganj says: A school student was killed when a bus ran over her at Niluar turning point on Ghior-Daulatpur road under Daulatpur upazila in Manikganj yesterday. The deceased student is identified as Razia, 10, daughter of Jahangir hossain of Arpara village under Dhamrai upazila in Dhaka. Our correspondent from Munshiganj reports: One person was killed and three others were injured in a road accident when a driver of an auto-rickshaw lost his control over steering and fell into a roadside ditch at Sonarong crossing on Louhajong-Muktarpur-Dhaka road of Tongibari upazila early yesterday. The deceased is Al-Amin, 25, son of Joynal Miah of West Naopara village under Louhajong upazila. Our correspondent from Brahmanbaria: Three people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents on Brahmanbaria-Sylhet highway at Sarail and Brahmanbaria sadar upazila yesterday. The deceased were tempo driver Hanif Mia, 32, of Nandanpur village; Ilora Akter, 6, daughter of Jalal Mia of Natail village, and truck driver Tajul Islam, 35. The first accident took place while a Dhaka-bound speedy truck and Brahmanbaria-bound CNG-run tempo collided head-on at the turning point of Molubihiati village under sadar upazila. The second accident occurred when stone laden truck's wheel exploded at Kuttapara point under Sarail upazila.
