From fairy tales to science fiction, adventure stories to fantasy, the world of children's literature has a lot to offer. Throughout the ages authors from all over the world in their respective languages have enriched it and made it vibrant. Fairy tales, from Aesop's fables to Hans Christian Andersen and the Grimm brothers, from sleeping beauty to the happy prince, have an appeal that is universal. It's a world of fairies and giants and dwarfs and sleeping princesses and talking animals. “Robinson Crusoe” by Daniel Defoe is a classic tale of a man who spent 28 years on a deserted island. Some other children's classics on shipwreck and islands are “The Coral Island” by Robert Michel Ballantyne - the adventure story of three teenage boys in a Polynesian island. “Swiss Family Robinson” by Johann Rudolf Wyss is about a Swiss family who are shipwrecked. “The Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson is a classic tale of one legged pirates and treasure hunters. Alexandre Dumas, the famous French author, is best known for “The Count of Monte Cristo” and “The Three Musketeers”. Charles Dickens is the creator of some of English literature's most iconic characters. “David Copperfield”, “Oliver Twist”, “Nicolas Nickleby” are among his famous works for children. “Little women”, is a story of the March sisters Meg, Joe, Beth. “Amie” is a novel by American novelist Louisa May Alcott. “Five Children and it” and “The Railway Children” are two delightful novels by Edith Nesbit. “Lord of the rings” is an epic fantasy novel by J RR Tolkien. It is a trilogy, beginning with “the fellowship of the ring”, about a young hobbit Frodo and his quest. of fantasies, JK Rowling has created a phenomenon over the Harry Potter series. Our beloved young wizard Harry is a student of Hogwarts School of witchcraft and Wizardry and fights the evil wizard Lord Voldemont with his best friends Ron and Hermione. Books take us to a whole new world a world where we can be whatever we want to be. Books are our pass to personal freedom. Sitting in our living room, we wander through the prairies with Laura Ingalls, we set out on an expedition in Masai territory with Alan Quatermain and we fight Voldemont with Harry. We cry, we laugh, and we sigh. We read. Just for the pleasure of it. As the saying goes- “Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book” CRICKET
Cricket is a bat-and-ball team sport. Its most popular form is played on an oval-shaped outdoor arena known as a cricket field at the centre of which is a rectangular 22-yard (20.12 m) long pitch that is the focus of the game. In professional cricket this ranges from a limit of 20 overs per side (Twenty20) to a game played over 5 days (Test cricket, which is the highest level of the game). Cricket was first documented as being played in southern England in the 16th century. By the end of the 18th century, it had become the national sport of England. Early cricket was at some time or another described as "a club striking a ball (like) the ancient games of club-ball, stool-ball, trap-ball, stob-ball".Cricket can definitely be traced back to Tudor times in early 16th-century England. Written evidence exists of a game known as creag being played by Prince Edward, the son of Edward I (Longshanks), at Newenden, Kent, in 1301 and there has been speculation, but no evidence, that this was a form of cricket. The expansion of the British Empire led to cricket being played overseas and by the mid-19th century the first international matches were being held. Today, the game's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), has 105 member countries. The rivalry between England and Australia gave birth to The Ashes in 1882 and this has remained Test cricket's most famous contest. Test cricket began to expand in 188889 when South Africa played England. The last two decades before the First World War have been called the "Golden Age of Cricket".
