Increase scientific researches: Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid urged scientists and students to increase scientific researches and studies to improve qualitative standard of education. He made the call while inaugurating 'International Chemistry Year-2011' ceremony at Curzon Hall premises of Dhaka University (DU) yesterday, presided over by the organising committee's Chairman Prof M Muhubur Rahman. He also wished success of the year, declared by United Nations, and assured of support from his ministry in this regard. DU Vice Chancellor AASM (VC) Arefin Siddique, Jahangirnagar University VC Prof Dr Sharif Enamul Kabir, Unesco Representative in Dhaka Dirik Illias and Bangladesh Chemical Society President Prof M Jasim Uddin Ahmed also spoke. Speakers said 100 years of Madam Curie's Nobel Prize win would also be celebrated this year. They said the young generation should study chemistry for the development of the country and to keep up with the challenges of the 21st century. Later, a colourful rally led by the education minister was brought out on the campus.
