Practise responsible journalism: Azad
Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad yesterday said mass media should practice responsible journalism keeping people's welfare in mind as media are liable to the masses.
He also called upon the media to work in a way so that the government can know about people's aspirations.
He told a programme arranged for marking the second anniversary of FM station abc radio (FM 89.2) at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.
The station began its third year on January 7 this year. At the yesterday's programme, the minister launched a new logo and website -- www.abcradiobd.fm -- of the station.
Greeting the station, Azad hoped that it would continue presenting objective journalism in the future.
The government has taken many steps to ensure free flow of information and so the media has the responsibility to present objective news for the sake of the development of the nation, he said.
"Some FM stations in the country use Bangla distortedly," said the minister, hoping they would practice Bangla language properly.
Latifur Rahman, chairman of the board of directors of abc radio, said the FM station would continue its effort to offer factual and credible information to its listeners.
"It (abc radio) has been trying to do that and the feedback we are receiving shows that the it has made its own space from the news side," he said. He also said they would try to transmit out of Dhaka.
Matiur Rahman, a director of the board of directors and editor of Prothom Alo, said the aim of the station is to broadcast objective and neutral news, which it has been doing for the last two years.
He also said the station become popular among other FM stations though it is new in terms of age. It has been using Bangla without any distortion and will continue broadcasting more correct Bangla, he added.
