Pirate killed in 'shootout'
A pirate was killed in a 'shootout' with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on the estuary of Baleshwar river in Patharghata upazila of Barguna early yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-8 conducted a drive in Geyanpara area of Chardoani at about 3:20am and challenged a notorious gang of pirates, locally known as 'Krishna-Sagor Bahini'.
Sensing their presence, the pirates opened fire on the elite force members, prompting them to retaliate.
Gang leader Waliur Rahman alias Krishna ,40, was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his cohorts managed to flee the scene, reports our Barisal correspondent.
