Lunatic kills two children, hurts youth
A mentally imbalanced man killed two children and wounded a youth critically hitting them with a spade on the head at the village Charpara of Trishal sadar upazila in Mymensingh yesterday evening.
The deceased children are Tania, 8, daughter of Jamal Uddin and Latif, 7, son of Babul of Charpara village.
Police said Tania and Latif allegedly irritated Minto, 35, known in his locality as Minto Pagal (mad), as he was returning home at neighbouring Panchpara village.
At one stage of irritation, Minto who also works as day labourer started hitting Tania and Latif on their heads indiscriminately with the spade in his hand, injuring them critically, said Sub-inspector (SI) Shamim Al Mamun of Trishal Police Station.
One Enamul, 25, who came to Charpara to visit his in-laws suffered critical injuries after Minto hit him with the spade as he (Enamul) tried to save the kids from Minto's attack, police said.
Tania, Latif, and Enamul were rushed to Trishal Uapzila Health Complex where Tania succumbed to her injuries.
Latif and Enamul were shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH). Doctors there declared Latif dead. Enamul is undergoing treatment at MMCH.
Soon after the incident, local people rushed to the spot and caught Minto and handed him over to police. Police sent the bodies of the victims to MMCH morgue for autopsy. A case was lodged with Trishal Police Station.
