Half-day strike today
10 hurt in fresh 'attack'
United People's Democratic Front, Hill Women's Federation and Pahari Chhattra Parishad yesterday called a half-day strike in Rangamati today.
The called the programme protesting the Thursday's Longudu incident and attacks on their activists allegedly by members of village defence party and army yesterday morning.
Yesterday, ten people were injured in an attack when the three organisations were holding a rally at Kutukchhari Bazar in sadar upazila protesting the Thursday's incident.
On Thursday, at least 32 houses were burnt in an arson attack and counter attack in Longudu by Bangalee settlers and indigenous people following the alleged murder of a settler on Wednesday night by unknown people.
An all-party meeting held yesterday at Longudu upazila auditorium decided to check any further violence.
Our Staff Correspondent reports: Bangladesh Institute of Human Rights (BIHR) in an statement and Chittagong Hill Tracts Hill Students' Council yesterday at a rally at Dhaka University protested the attack and demanded fair investigation.
They protested the attacks in Rangamati as well as gang rape of an indigenous girl by Bangalees at a residential hotel in Chittagong.
