Teachers of government secondary schools has urged authorities concerned to appoint teachers in all vacant posts in all schools on the basis of promotion. They demanded that assistant teachers should be provided with first class status and a establishing a separate directorate to oversee the secondary level education. The teachers threatened to launch a movement if their demands are not met within one month. Now the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) oversees secondary and higher secondary level education. They made the demand at a press conference organised by Bangladesh Government Secondary Assistant Teachers' Association (BGSATA) at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Sunday. "Despite having years of experience, many qualified assistant teachers and assistant headmasters are not being promoted," said Abu Naser, assistant teacher of Begumganj Govt Pilot High School in Noakhali. Quoting newspaper reports on the vacant posts of different positions, BGSATA President Mofazzal Hossain said this is hampering educational activities badly. Shamsun Nahar Saima, assistant headmaster of Biddamoyi Government High School in Mymensingh, said implementation of the new education policy would not be possible unless the problem is solved. Later, a delegation of BGSATA met DSHE Director General Prof Noman-ur-Rashid to press home their demands.
