Court Correspondent
A Dhaka court yesterday cancelled bail and issued an arrest warrant against Mohammad Shahidullah Prince, chairman of Padmakuri Dance Institute, in connection with a cheating case. Metropolitan Magistrate AGM Al Masud passed the order after Advocate Bidhan Chandra Saha, counsel of the complainant of the case, prayed for issuance of arrest warrant against the accused as he was not present in the court yesterday. The court also ordered to attach properties of another accused Abul Kashem Sohag, also general secretary of the institute, as he was yet to appear before it and sought bail in the case. The court fixed May 10 for the next hearing of the case. On March 10 last year, Shrabonti, a dance artiste and daughter of Sheikh Anisur Rahman of Rupsha in Khulna, filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court against the two. In her complaint, Shrabonti said she had participated in a dance competition and secured the first position in 2009. The Baishakhi TV aired the programme. Following the programme, the Padmakuri announced an award of Tk 1 lakh for her. The accused gave Shrabonti a cheque for Tk 85,000 after deducting 15 percent from the principal amount. But the cheque bounced twice after Shrabonti deposited it to the Mercantile Bank in the city on December 17 and 29, 2009.
