CCC Poll Violence
Probe committee begins enquiry
The one-member investigation committee constituted with Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Md Jahurul Haque yesterday interviewed Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Monjurul Alam over the violence during the last CCC elections.
Mayor Manjur told the investigator that he was not on the spot during the violence; so it was not possible for him to inform anything about the incident.
On the first day of investigation, Haque also asked the local election commission officers for information about the delay in publishing poll result and violence that night.
District Election Officer (DEO) Khorshed Alam informed the investigator that the violence was spread out on the rumour of vote counting forgery.
Judge Jahurul Haque visited the gymnasium of MA Aziz Stadium that was used as temporary control room for CCC polls.
DEO Dulal Talukder and Divisonal Deputy Election Officer Ejharul Haque accompanied the investigator during the inquiry.
