World Kidney Day today
On the eve of the World Kidney Day today, different organisations chalked out awareness programmes on kidney related diseases and their prevention yesterday.
International Diabetic and Kidney Foundation organised a rally from in front of Jaitya Press Club in the city at 10:00am.
A roundtable discussion titled 'Duties in preventing Kidney diseases: Perspective Bangladesh' was also organised by Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (Kamps) at Jatiya Press Club.
Experts at the discussion said an estimated two crore people are suffering from different types of kidney diseases. At least five people dye every hour due to kidney failure and so immense awareness on prevention is needed, they said.
Kidney, one of the most important organs of the body, filters 200 litres of blood every day to keep us healthy. But the problem arises when its capacity to filter reduces due to nephritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, build up of stone or for long-term use of harmful drugs that lead to kidney failure, said the experts.
They suggested drinking two to three liters of water every day to prevent kidney diseases; to control blood pressure, diabetes, and cardiac problems; and to go for proper treatment of urine infections.
In a press release, representatives of The Barakah Kidney Hospital and Research Institute Limited said they are offering treatment free of cost to 10 poor patients and a month-long 50 percent discount on diagnostic tests.
It is also holding a free consultation camp from March 12 to April 12 from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
For registration, patients can contact Barakah Kidney Hospital and Urology Foundation on 129 New Eskaton Road in the city or make a phone call at 9350884 or 01716306631.
Meanwhile, Ayesha Memorial Specialised Hospital organised a scientific seminar titled “Chronic Kidney Disease: Bangladesh Perspective” at its Mohakhali premises. It will organise a free medical camp today and tomorrow.
